Scotland is not just the home of salmon fishing but also the home of golf. Scotland has a golfing legacy that stretches back centuries and for many keen golfers all over the world playing a round of golf in Scotland is the holy grail. From the world famous golf courses like the Old Course and Kingsbarns in St. Andrews, Fife to Carnoustie links in Tayside there truly is a golf course to satisfy the most discerning of golfers.
Many of the famous golf courses in Scotland are no more than a Skip away from some of the best salmon fishing locations in the country. The regions of Perthshire and Fife are blessed with some of the best golf courses in Scotland and as luck would have it Perthshire is also home to probably the most famous salmon river in the country, the mighty River Tay.
The River Tay needs little introduction in salmon fishing circles. It is mighty not only by name but also in nature. It still holds the British rod caught record for the biggest Atlantic salmon. This fish was caught in 1923 and weighed in at a colossal sixty-four pounds. As well as having a decent spring run the Tay also produces good numbers of grilse and summer salmon. During the autumn months, the Tay can produce some big catches. Many anglers have some unforgettable days in autumn when not only large numbers of fish are caught but also large fish.
Usually the best months to fish the River Tay are between May and October and so we recommend that you book this package during these times so you get the most from both your salmon fishing and golfing experience.
When booking this package we recommend that anglers reside in the beautiful village of Dunkeld which is situated on the banks of the river. Dunkeld was recently voted the best place to live in Scotland so you can see why it is such a firm favourite among visiting anglers in the area. The hotels we use in Dunkeld include Dunkeld House Hotel as well as the Atholl Arms. Both hotels are situated on the banks of the Tay and have a fine tradition for catering for fishing guests.
To get the best from your Scottish salmon fishing and golfing trip we recommend two days salmon fishing on the River Tay as well as two days golfing on two different courses. This would be coupled with four nights’ accommodation but as with all of our packages this can be tailored to suit your requirements.
Our Scottish salmon fishing and golfing safari is a firm favourite for visitors who want to have that chance of landing that Atlantic Salmon of a life time then make a hole in one the following day at the Old Course in St. Andrews. Are you up for the challenge?
