Day by Day Itinerary
Welcome to Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a world famous city and a firm favourite for visitors that come to Scotland. Edinburgh boasts fantastic restaurants and bars as well as some very famous traditional Scottish pubs. Edinburgh is home to famous landmarks like the Royal Mile, as well as Arthur’s Seat and Edinburgh Castle which is steeped in history. There is no shortage of things to do and see in Edinburgh. Upon arrival at your hotel in Edinburgh spend the rest of your day at your leisure.
Edinburgh Castle & Authur's Seat
After a leisurely breakfast we recommend that you take a tour on Edinburgh’s open top bus. This is often the best way to get a feel of the city. Of course we all know the vagaries of the Scottish weather but weather permitting there is no better vantage point to view Scotland’s most iconic city. The bus tour last around an hour. You can hop on and off the bus as you please and spend time at the various landmarks including the Grass Market, the Scottish Parliament and St. Johns Church. If you wish to visit some of the landmarks on the tour we recommend half a day for this.
After enjoying some lunch in one of the numerous restaurants or pubs in Edinburgh head to Edinburgh Castle. The unmistakable Edinburgh Castle is located on stunning Castle Rock giving magnificent views of the surrounding city. Major attractions at the castle include The Stone of Destiny which was used when Scottish Kings had their Coronation, St. Margaret’s Chapel and the National War Museum. Set aside enough time to see the regal Crown Jewels which are located within the castle itself.
Following a visit to the castle enjoy a visit to another one of Edinburgh’s famous landmarks, Arthur’s Seat. Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano and the easy walk up the hill is well worth it. Once at the top you get stunning views of the city itself as well as the Firth of Forth. Arthur’s Seat stands above Edinburgh at over eight hundred feet and is a favourite for hikers as well as visitors to the city. After visiting Arthur’s Seat return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Palace of Holyrood & Royal Mile
After the excursions of the previous day climbing Arthur’s Seat today is much more relaxed. After breakfast check out of your hotel and then visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The palace is the home of the Royal family in Scotland. Holyroodhouse has some magnificent architecture which is truly decadent. Highlights include the Great Gallery and the State Apartments. Don’t forget to enjoy the Palace gardens which provide a relaxing and beautiful atmosphere to absorb your regal surroundings.
Following your visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse it’s now time to visit Edinburgh’s World famous Royal Mile. The Royal Mile is the most iconic street in Edinburgh and is about a mile in length. It is situated between the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Edinburgh Castle. The Royal Mile is home to many famous shops, bars and restaurants and is part of Edinburgh’s old town. Some of the architecture on the Royal Mile is truly magnificent. Enjoy spending a couple of hours strolling down the Royal Mile visiting the small independent shops and cafés.
Having visited the Royal Mile then enjoy the short leisurely drive down to Kelso in the Scottish Borders. This will take around one hour. The drive is very scenic as you leave Edinburgh and drive through the rolling hills south.
Once in Kelso head for the luxurious Schloss Roxburghe Hotel. The Schloss is one of Scotland’s most famous luxury hotels. It has a number of restaurants and bars and is situated within magnificent grounds. There is a golf course on site as well as a private trout fishing loch for residents. The Schloss boasts a health club which has both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. The Schloss Roxburghe Hotel is the true definition of luxury. After arriving at the hotel spend the rest of your day at your leisure
Salmon fishing on the River Tweed
Over the next two days you will be fishing on the World famous River Tweed, Scotland’s most prolific salmon river. You will be fishing on one of the most productive private beats on the River Tweed at the time of your visit.
After breakfast, your Salmon Fishing Holidays Scotland guide will be waiting to meet and greet you at the Schloss in the morning. (Private transfers can be arranged if required).
