The eagerly anticipated Scottish Fly Fair gets underway this upcoming weekend in Stirling. This should be a fantastic event and one to mark in the calendar for any keen fisher. There will be a number of exhibitors at the event on Saturday and Sunday and attendance numbers are set to be high. Anglers will be able to enjoy browsing around the various stands, watching fly tying and casting demonstrations from some of the best instructors in the business. In addition to this, anglers will also be able to have a cast on the mighty River Tay.
The fabulous Newtyle Beat on the mighty River Tay is situated just downstream of Dunkeld and is proud to be hosting fly casting demonstrations, and also allowing anglers to experience salmon fishing on one of the most famous salmon rivers in Scotland on Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th of March. Andy Gunn, the experienced resident beat ghillie will be on hand to answer any of your questions and offer advice on any aspect of salmon fishing, as will the Salmon Fishing Holidays Scotland Team.
The Newtyle Beat is the perfect venue to hold such a marquee event. This prolific beat is situated in a wonderful secluded setting and showcases some of the best salmon fishing Scotland has to offer. The beat can comfortably accommodate six rods and boasts some lovely fly water. There are a great variety of pools on Newtyle which means that the beat can fish well in most heights of water. Like most beats on the middle River Tay, Newtyle produces excellent numbers of spring salmon from March onwards. During the summer months, decent numbers of grilse and summer salmon are caught from the beat and sport can be fast and furious. In September and October, the eagerly anticipated back end run arrives, and this ensures that there is good sport to be had until the end of the season.
The Newtyle Beat makes up part of the Erigmore Estate. The Estate has a number of luxury lodges located no more than a stone’s throw away from the beat. This makes the Estate the perfect retreat for anglers coming to fish on the River Tay. The lodges are very well appointed, and some have luxurious hot tubs which offer splendid views across the Perthshire countryside.
The Scottish Fly Fair is going to be a very special event this weekend and one not to be missed. The Salmon Fishing Holidays Scotland Team look forward to welcoming you to the Newtyle Beat.
